Everybody needs a little Elvis

This post is a follow up to yesterday's about Terry's new quilt.  The title is "Touring the World," and she's going to get some photos from my international collection as we roll along, but, meanwhile, here are some close-ups of each of the fabrics in the quilt.

I'm amused, because this quilt is so foreign to my usual style and so foreign to Terry's innate style; and the colors are pastels and there's gray in it -- a color I haven't worn since one particularly sad day in 2000 -- and then Elvis decided to horn in on the adventure.  And the hot pink/white/gray/black fabric?  If you can figure out why I bought it in the first place, let me know.

For perspective, I've picked up two photos of the first quilt I made for Terry, which is PERFECT for her.
Beyond the obvious blues and greens and bit of purple, if you enlarge these photos you'll see several teapots.  I'd stopped in Gaffney, South Caroline, at Mary Jo's fabric store and I found both the teapots and the dressmaker forms, of which I purchased far too little..

So that was then, and it was perfect and fit who I am and who Terry is.  But then a pile of fabrics leaped into my arms:

As a side note, I'm surprised at how ordinary these fabrics look set out like this, but how alive and energetic the quilt looks.  That, I suppose, is the magic.

The final quilt (and matching pillow):

Amazing. The pink elvises are magnificent. But those yellow taxicabs are damn near orgasmic in the mix. Love it. You win.

I thought it would be dreadfully drab with all the gray in it, so I added a few corrective fabrics. And it ended up nine feet long, so I cut part of it off and made her a matching pillow. Oh. Maybe I already said that.
