Kentucky State Fair -- Grand Prize Winner quilt

It's the most extraordinary thing.  You wander up and down the aisles of quilts thinking any one of them, with one or two exceptions, could have been produced any time in the last 150 years.  And then you stumble upon the Grand Prize winner, and all my residual hatred for quilts flew away.

This piece is Neptune and Mardi Gras, fiesta and feast and feat.  The use of color, of negative space, of nonspace.  The variety of products used in its construction, the confidence of the color, the exuberance and energy and MOVEMENT -- This piece is breathtaking.
