More Marina Photos from Middle Bass

The black edging you see in this photo and the next two is the fencing put up to keep the Lake Erie Islands water snakes out of harm's way during construction. The snakes refuse to wear hard hats, and so, because they're a protected species, special measures are taken to keep them safe. According to a recent UPI story, the snakes were listed as threatened in 1999. A survey 10 years ago revealed a population of 1200 snakes. A survey this year revealed a population of 12,000.

This is another location to which dirt is being delivered; it's immediately south of the schoolhouse.
