I'll be home for Christmas

I'm in South Carolina for a sad event -- the funeral of my daughter's stepson. Michael J. Honeycutt, called Jay, age 32, died early Saturday, leaving a fifteen-year-old daughter.

The death of someone so young is, always, heart-breaking.

A bit of consolation rests in the family's decision to allow organ donation, but consolation is a hollow word this week.

The kind people who love Jay are brittle with mourning, flooded with grief.

Tara's cousin and his family made cookies yesterday.  My teenage niece is accompanying me and Tara's other cousin to the memorial service.

May we all go well into this day.
