And I think to myself, "What a wonderful world."

I've mentioned postcrossing several times before, but today I got this most excellent postcard from the Philippines and want to show it off.  Here's the text:

Ati-Atihan festival
Kalibo, Aklan, Philippines
3rd Sunday of January

The Ati-atihan Festival is held in honor of the Santo Nino brought by Magellan to the native Queen of Cebu in 1521.  The celebrants paint their faces with black soot and wear bright, outlandish costumes as they dance to the rhythm of the drums.

Fascinating, yes?  I don't know that I've thought about Magellan since fifth grade.
