Cicadas quick and dead

I went looking yesterday during daylight for a live cicada. Mostly in the evenings when Koko's on the prowl for them, they're standing still, either becuase they're emerging from the carapace or they already have and nothing remains but the husk.

The other remarkable aspect of this photo is that if you enlarge it, you can see clearly that the tree the cicada is climbing, which we all believe to be brown, is not brown at all. It's green and gray and beige and red. . .
The cicada on the lower right is moving ever upward. The one on the upper left is no longer occupied.
