Newest Navy Man

My oldest grandson Bradley, who graduated from high school and enlisted in the Navy in June, left for boot camp today. He'll spend tonight in Raleigh, North Carolina, and travel to Chicago tomorrow. Boot camp is eight weeks long, and the family has four tickets to attend graduation.

While Bradley was ready to roll, my daughter looks a little less gleeful.

Bradley joins my nephew Jon, a Navy pilot-in-training; and my compadre's brother Tim, who was a Navy SEAL. Also, during World War II my father was a pilot in the British Navy. And so it goes. To paraphrase something my friend Judy in Israel once said, every generation has its own Iraq -- and every generation has its own Navy man, too.
