Olympic Opening Ceremony

The early part of the Olympic opening ceremony was beautiful, but nothing ever matches the joy and wonder of watching all of the athletes march in.

Here in the States, it's marred a bit by the dreadful American announcers. One of them (there are three, all male) has just made an unkind comment about the clothing worn by the athletes from Hungary. The women's suits are made from a cheerful patterned fabric, white with large scattered red flowers that look to be peonies or roses. They look fabulous!

How terribly gauche of the announcer. He needs a reprimand, fast.

I totally agree with you, that the announcer should be reprimanded! I am lucky though I do not need to watch this version of the olympics and have opted to watch the CBC - Canadian Broadcasting Corp. So far, I am finding that their telecasting and commentating is proving quite informative and generally unbiased. Funny thing too, I watched the first womens soccer game on CBC then hours later noticed that it was on the American station and being touted as LIVE, not so, not so!

My parents live in northern Ohio and get Canadian channels as well as American ones. They've often remarked on how different the news coverage of the same event is -- with the Canadian coverage being more balanced.
